Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, you we thank you for giving us Jesus to be our Light. Help us to follow Him and be thankful that His light shines on us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sorry Song (to the tune of If you’re happy and you know it)
When we say that you are sorry, God forgives.
When we say that you are sorry, God forgives.
If our sins are large or small,
God will still forgive them all.
When we say that we are sorry, God forgives.
Then sing the Gloria (tune of Row, Row, Row your Boat)
Praise, praise, praise the Lord, Praise our Father dear.
As we listen to his word, feel his spirit near.
Gospel – John 3:16-18
The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. (teach them this)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John. All: Glory to you, O Lord. (teach them this)
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its saviour. Those who believe in the Son are not judged; but those who do not believe have already been judged, because they have not believed in God's only Son.
Taken from Good News Translation
After Gospel - All:“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
Suggestions for the Discussion
Imagine you had a friend who hadn't really learned about God and God's' love before. How do you think you would explain it to them? Where can you find everything you need to know about God's love? That's right - in the Bible. You could take your Bible to your friends house and read about God's love. How do you think you would choose what to read? The Bible is divided into two books, the Old Testament and the New Testament, there are 66 books, 1180 chapters and 31,173 verses. Whoa, that is a lot to choose from! It could be confusing - how about making that message easier foryour friend to understand for the first time?
If you search on the computer for the top 10 verses in the Bible that people know, love and read the most, the number 1 verse is John 3:16. It says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." That tells us everything we need to know about God's love. I think it's a message that would be easy to explain - what do you think?
Who is this verse about? God
Who does it say He loves? The world
What did He do to show His love? He gave His only Son
What should we do in return? Believe that Jesus is the Son of God
What is our reward? Eternal life
The Bible is full of the promises of God's love and we should be ready to share those promises. How can we get closer to God and show that we are grateful to Him for giving us His only Son?
Read the Bible, pray every day, be kind, helpful, caring, respectful, forgiving, don’t be tempted to follow what we know is wrong, pray for the world, remember to ask for forgiveness for our mistakes, listen to our parents, carers etc. Read God's word (the Bible). and encourage our friends to come to church online as we do, to learn about God and Jesus.
